To engage new readers with the story and provide them with a thorough, accessible introduction to WOTW.

Getting Started
- Go to relevant chapter (e.g. I.THE EVE OF WAR) or section (e.g. Book One I-VIII)
- Start by focussing on image (or YouTube thumbnail) e.g What can you see in the image? What do you think has happened? What do you think this story is about?
- Where available use powerpoint presentation with whole class. Each includes predictive (What do you think will happen next?) & summative activities.
- Slides have a suggested presentation script - adapt or ignore this according to need.
- Move to reading worksheets for expansion and consolidation. Once readers know what is going on, the text becomes less intimidatory.
- Set short written activities. for further work, reference and revision

Each worksheet concludes with a Quick Check Activity & there are also vocabulary & close reading exercises and other activities.
Quick Check Questions
These aim to ensure that readers are following the story and to build confidence. They generally use the ‘True, false or not-stated’ formula.

Including answers and notes on the text are provided within the Powerpoints or separate documents (usually via Google docs for reading worksheets
